چکیده

—Synidotea fasten, n. sp., the sixth known member of the genus Synidotea from the western Atlantic Ocean, is described from shallow waters (1—2 m) adjacent to open beaches in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Its current range extends from western Florida westward to Texas. The new species is distinguished from other related species by small size, fairly straight lateral margins of first perconite, having the posterior margin of pleotelson straight to very slightly emarginate and by details of the appendix masculina. A key to the known western Atlantic species of the genus Synidotea is also given.

Litarcturus kexueiae sp. nov., a new deep-sea isopod from the Okinawa Trough (Crustacea, Isopoda, Valvifera, Antarcturidae).

A new species of the genus Litarcturus Brandt, 1990, L. kexueiae sp. nov., collected from deep sea of the Okinawa Trough, is described and illustrated. It is readily distinguished from the other seven species of the genus by bearing long supraocular spines about as long as the head and posterolateral pleotelsonic spines overreaching the pleotelson apex.

Cellulose digestion and phenol oxidation in coastal isopods (Crustacea: Isopoda)

In order to test three hypotheses on digestive constraints that may have affected the colonization of land by isopods, two marine isopods and one semi-terrestrial species were screened for their ability to oxidize phenolic compounds and digest cellulose in natural and artificial diets. Ligia pallasii (Isopoda: Oniscidea) and Gnorimosphaeroma oregonense (Isopoda: Sphaeromatidea) oxidized dietary...

Takereana, a new genus of Idoteidae (Crustacea: Isopoda: Valvifera) from New Zealand.

Takereana n. gen. is erected for the New Zealand species, Idotea festiva Chilton, 1885, which is redescribed. Takereana, Austridotea Poore, 2001 and Idotea Fabricius, 1798 are the only idoteid genera in which both pleonites 1 and 2 are truly articulating. In all other genera of Idoteidae pleonite 2 is variously fused to pleonite 1 and visible only laterally. The new genus differs from Austridot...

A new species of the genus Gammarus (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Gammaridae) from the low salinity habitats in the northern Gulf of Mexico

In the northern Gulf of Mexico, Gammarus mucronatus sensu lato is represented by at least two forms, G. mucronatus sensu stricto and a less common “macromucronate” form, which appears to be restricted to low salinity habitats. These two forms have traditionally been separated using the size or angle of projection of the dorsal mucronations (processes). However, because of variability in the dev...

The genus Cymodoce Leach, 1814 (Crustacea: Isopoda: Sphaeromatidae) in the Persian Gulf with description of a new species.

Cymodoce truncata (Leach, 1814), the type species of the genus, C. zanzibarensis (Stebbing, 1910) and C. richardsoniae (Nobili, 1906) are redescribed based on type specimens or topotypic material, and a neotype is designated for Cymodoce richardsoniae. A revised generic diagnosis and description is provided for the genus Cymodoce. Cymodoce delvarii sp. nov. is described from the subtidal zone o...
